Stock Photography: Inverness-shire
Loch Garten
I have amassed a large collection of Stock Photography images which previously could be accessed via a link to Photographers Direct.com. This was a well-established website with well over one million images on record, supplied by thousands of photographers worldwide. However, in early 2019 the site folded without warning or explanation, I suspect as the result of a downturn in the Stock Photography market. As an alternative means of displaying my stock images, I am in the early stages of creating a series of thumbnail gallery pages featuring shots previously held by PD in addition to those included in the main posts.
Due to the large number of JPEG files I have not attempted to re-keyword individual files as before but have grouped them under general headings so that they can be accessed via a general search. Larger categories will be sub-divided and some subjects may be duplicated on one or more pages.
Please note that all my images are subject to copyright. They are not free to use and have been embedded with a digital watermark. Also bear in mind that
the thumbnails displayed are relatively low-quality and do not fully reflect the standard of images produced from the high-resolution files supplied to clients.

Unsurprisingly, the RSPB Reserve at Loch Garten acts as a magnate for birdwatchers to the Speyside area, especially as this is the most famous Osprey nesting site in the UK. Their nest is on a bare tree in the forest rather than at the lochside and the protection necessary to deter egg thieves and vandals makes it disappointingly ugly to look at and limits the views of the birds.
Another major draw at Loch Garten is the chance to see the very rare and elusive Capercaillie. The birds usually only show around dawn in April and May and the visitors centre can get really hectic with serious birders, sometimes 80 plus, queuing up to access the hide! Once was enough for me as, although I did get a fleeting, very distant view of one bird, the hustle and bustle at 0530 hrs wasn`t an enjoyable experience. Red Squirrels are more or less guaranteed at the feeders and Crested Tits, a Scottish speciality are resident and regularly spotted. A woodland footpath connects Loch Garten with Loch Mallachie but Osprey can potentially be seen fishing at any of the lochs in the Speyside area.
