*Page under construction*
With hundreds of merchant ship shots taken over the years, this page shows only a small number of examples from my collection. I now intend to cover individual vessels with their own entries as they appear. Meantime, I`ll try and work back and add a few images when time permits with the most recent first. Bulk Carriers and Containerships are listed seperately.
Pascal
Pascal, seen here passing the Golden Jubilee Hospital at Clydebank on her way upriver, called in at the scrapyard occupying the Lobnitz site, Renfrew, on 17 April. She was built in Serbia in 2001 is owned and managed by a German shipping company.
Louis
On Wednesday 16 April 2014, cargo ship Louis arrived from the Ukraine port of Mariupol on the north coast of the Sea of Azov. As she often carries large wind turbine components, and as I hadn`t seen any such vessels on the river recently, I made my way onto the Erskine Bridge to catch her sailing underneath on her way to Shieldhall. Her deck was clear, however, and it`s thought she was here to discharge a hold full of maize.
Briese Chartering is part of the large Briese Schiffahrt Group which currently manages more than 130 multi-purpose vessels between 2,500 and 37,300 metric tonnes deadweight. Svitzer Milford was solely tasked with assisting the visitor safely into her berth. Louis left the following day bound for Aarhus in Denmark.

Bramau
Slovakian-built Bramau, one of two vessels snapped from my back window on 5 April, had arrived light from Liverpool, and is seen here on her way upriver to collect scrap from the yard at South Street.
Heading in the opposite direction was Robris, a large Norwegian-flagged Live Fish Carrier which left Glasgow`s KGV Dock after an overnight stay. Possibly undergoing maintenance, the somewhat unusual visitor to the city sailed down to Arran before returning to her berth at Glasgow. |
Arklow Fern
Thursday 23 January 2014: Out on my bike. Cycled along to Renfrew and crossed to the Yoker side of the river via the ferry. This RIB appeared motoring west at a fair speed. It passed Arklow Fern which was loading scrap at the old Lobnitz Yard at Renfrew.
Almost directly opposite, on the north bank at Rothesay Dock East, long term resident Loyal Mediator (centre) an ex-Royal Navy Fleet Auxiliary, was still at the River Clyde Boatyard.
