The Autumn migration is now well underway and geese are returning to the general area, many taking up temporary residence in the farmland adjacent to the airport. This flock of mainly Canada Geese was feeding in the field between Walkinshaw Road and the Black Cart Water.
Jet Airliners
Above: A Thomson Dreamliner taxies out for take-off on the 12th. Investigative work was underway near the northern perimeter of the airfield to find a suitable site for the installation of a new radar to mitigate interference from the numerous wind turbines located on the surrounding hills. On primary radars turbines, although static, produce a return similar to that from an aircraft therefore, when up and running, the additional radar should assist greatly in differentiating between aircraft and these structures.

As previously mentioned, Boeing 767-319(ER)(WL) TF-ISO (f/v) was one of several diversions to be redirected to Glasgow on Wednesday 14 September. The Icelandair jet which had been en route to LHR from Keflavik touched down about 10:45 hrs with a medical emergency. Several Aberdeen-bound airliners arrived later due to adverse weather and a hole in the runway at Aberdeen airport.
Prop-liners
Flybe Bombardier DHC-8-Q-402 G-JECY aborted it`s initial attempt at landing on Monday 12 September, possibly due to the temperamental wind conditions. The afternoon Emirates flight did the same.
Biz-Jets
GainJet Boeing 757-23N(WL) SX-RFA arrived on Tuesday 27 September with Manchester City FC for the Champions League tie against Celtic. The aircraft departed mid-afternoon on the 29th - no doubt this rather expensive `taxi`will only make a small dent in the team`s finances.
Cessna Citation XLS G-CXLS taxis to the Gama hangar after landing on Thursday 15 September, passing A6-FGE, the latest Boeing 737 for Flydubai to pass through Glasgow on delivery, which is parked on Stand 81.
General Aviation
Swiss-registerd Mooney M20R Ovation HB-DIE (f/v) arrived on Thursday 22 September and stayed until the afternoon of the 25th.
Norwegian-registered King Air 200 LN-BAA was parked outside the Gama hangar on Friday 30 October. Below: Pilatus PC-12 HB-FVT (f/v) was parked on Area Juliet on Saturday 25 September, while Piper PA-31T Navajo N187CP (f/v) and King Air G-KVIP are pictured here on the 28th.
Military
Not much military activity this month: CASA CN235M-100 Serial number 252 of the Irish Air Corps called in during the afternoon of Thursday 22 September and US Army Beech C-12U 84-24375, call-sign `PAT 456`, made a brief stop during the afternoon of Friday 24th.
Lockheed Martin KC-130T Tanker serial number 62309 (QH) (f/v) of the US Navy arrived at 05:45 hrs on the 30th and night-stopped into 1 October. It belongs to VMGR-234 `Rangers` which operates from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) at Fort Worth, Texas.
The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II turboprop military trainer is based on the Swiss-made Pilatus PC-9. This example a T-6C, bearing the US civil registration N3000B, arrived at Glasgow on Sunday 2 September. The Texan II has replaced the US Air Force's Cessna T-37B Tweet and the Navy's T-34C Turbo Mentor and is equipped with an all-digital, glass cockpit and features a hard-point wing to carry external fuel tanks, weapons and other external stores. The United States Air Force (USAF) use the T-6 for basic pilot and Combat Systems Officer (CSO) training and the US Navy and US Marine Corps use it for Primary and Intermediate Naval Flight Officer (NFO) training.
