Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, has grown rapidly to become the world's largest arts festival. It takes place annually in August and becomes a showcase for the performing arts, with show categories including Cabaret, Children's shows, Comedy, Dance, Physical Theatre & Circus, Events, Exhibitions, Music, Musicals and Opera, Spoken Word and Theatre. In addition to ticketed, programmed events, the Fringe Street Events run each day of the festival, primarily on the Royal Mile and at the Mound Precinct.
Artists and performers from all over the world descend on Scotland`s capital to participate and many of the locals jump at the chance to dress up and fleece the hoards of tourists descending on the city - even the monkeys from Edinburgh Zoo get in on the act!
